For the surfer that loves the smooth feel of PU (polyurethane) foam but wants the performance and durability of epoxy resin. EPU construction is a traditional PU blank glassed with epoxy resin. EPU offers a simple glassing schedule that provides surfers with a superior product which performs at a higher level and extends the life of the surfboard. Epoxy resin on a polyurethane blank results in a resilient surfboard construction which is lighter, brighter and whiter, which doesn’t yellow to the extent of a traditional PE (Polyester) surfboard.
EPU boards are resilient to cracking and fracturing so don’t ding as easily as PE. Epoxy has better bonding properties that add to the strength and extend the flex characteristics of the board. EPU boards are livelier and maintain their flex pattern for much longer than PE, this is because polyester resin will get harder and brittle with age while Epoxy resin has an elasticity property to it and has a flexural life span 2-3 times longer than PE resin. Epoxy resin is also known for its higher bonding capabilities. for example, epoxy’s relative strength can hold up to 2,000 lbs. per square inch, while polyester resin can only hold less than 500 lbs. per square inch.
EPU boards can be up to 10% lighter than the traditional PE construction, the epoxy resin has an optical brightener additive which makes it appear brighter and whiter for much longer.
EPU boards are laminated using a plant based Epoxy resin with a minimum of 21% bio content, this helps reduce our carbon footprint and toxicity during manufacturing. Also from a consumer’s perspective, epoxy resin lasts much longer and extends the life of the board.
EPU boards are constructed using the most advanced high performance materials. However this does not prevent the board from breakage or compressions. If any damage does occur, make sure to dry out all water from the PU core before repairing. EPU boards can be repaired using either Epoxy or Polyester resin.
It is recommended that you do not leave your board in direct sunlight or in a hot confined space.
