Shortboards

It was after World War II when materials became more technical, advances in plastics developed by American aircraft and boat building companies trickled down to the consumer market.

In 1949 Bob Simmons first started tinkering with balsa, plywood, and Styrofoam composites in search for a lighter design. Simmons settled on a polystyrene core with a mahogany veneer, sealed with fiberglass and resin. The result was an instant halving of the weight and a quantum leap in performance.

We've come such a long way, the high performance surfboard as we know today has had non stop refinements to make them to perform better. More critical detail in rails, bottom contours and rockers, allow these boards to be ultra sensitive under foot, and allowing the surfer to lay it on rail harder, drive off the bottom faster, boost higher and just react much better in general.
